72 Outram Street, West Perth WA 6005
Having recently returned from many years of experience opening and running bars across London, the Mayfair Lane team were keen to bring a taste of the classic British Gastro Pub to this leafy and long established venue in West Perth (formerly The Brown Fox). Not only does the menu herald from the likes of Mayfair, but also now the interior of this pub and dining room, re-imagined by local interior designer Tracy Zorich.
Traditional elements such as the decorative timber paneling, which anchors the dining space, were given a home-grown update, by selecting a soft, dusty, almost eucalyptus green paint, rather than the expected deeper shade. This keeps the atmosphere lighter and relaxed allowing the space to translate well from lunch through to the evening. Detailing such as the deep diamond buttoning to the banquette seating, a nod to the time-honored, again is softened by a pale tan vinyl.
The materials selections and aesthetic began from a single focus, this being the stunning new dining tables, which feature custom painted dusty green tops with solid aged brass edging. Solid Black butt timber flooring brings warmth and contrast to the walnut stained bentwood chairs. These contrasts of light and dark tones – and the balance they create, was essential to the overall concept.
The adjacent pub dining area is divided by a feature high bar table, combining the texture and richness of rough-sawn Victorian Ash with the soft, dusty green powder coated frame. White weatherboard cladding was also applied extensively to provide a crisp, yet still classic materiality that binds the different zones – pub and dining room – together.
The warmth and subtlety of the design, cleverly delivers a British Gastro Pub atmosphere, with a distinctly lighter and local feel.
